OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was nice again today, with a few clouds and temperatures that were a shade above normal. We wound up in the 70s for the first time in a few days.

While afternoon highs have been pretty similar on a day-to-day basis this week, the warm-up continues on the low end of the scale. Winds have shifted to the southwest tonight, and as a result, lows will be in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees.

Tomorrow will be a few degrees warmer than today around the region, with highs in the lower 70s. It will be another nice day for any outdoor plans. A weak front will push through the region tomorrow, but you won’t know it by looking at the radar, since the front has no moisture to work with. Lows tomorrow night and highs on Friday will be slightly cooler, but it will still be great weather for Friday night’s football games.
The weekend will start nice enough with some sunshine, but by the end of the day we begin to feel the effects of Isaias as it moves towards the area. The storm is developing very quickly with favorable enough conditions in the Gulf, and it is expected to be a top-end Category 2 hurricane before making landfall late Friday night/early Saturday morning.
The landfalling point and future path are both farther east than in previous advisories, and this makes for greater impacts in our area. It also brings the moisture into our area more quickly, on Saturday night/Sunday morning, rather than on Sunday as per the previous forecasts.

And it means more wind is in the forecast, and breezy to windy conditions can be expected on Sunday. Luckily, the storm will dissipate fairly quickly once over land, pulled apart by a front which will approach the area by Tuesday. The front will also affect the storm’s moisture by moving it through quickly. Rain totals will be heavy in spots, but for now it looks like widespread flooding will not be an issue. Behind the front, temperatures fall off quite a bit, and we’re expecting highs to be in the lower 60s by the end of the forecast.
