Bluefield, WV (WOAY) – For the first time since 2009, Bluefield football will play for a state championship.
The Beavers gained early momentum, going on to win 37-14 against Bridgeport in the Class AA semifinals Friday night at Mitchell Stadium.
Bridgeport’s opening drive went more than 11 minutes and went into the red zone, but ended with a missed field goal. Their second drive ended with a field goal attempt that was denied by the crossbar as well; the Beavers would score on each of their ensuing drives through Mookie Collier touchdown runs.
The Indians would get on the board to make it a 12-7 game at halftime, but Bluefield’s momentum continued in the second half, with Collier finishing the night with 293 yards and four touchdowns.
Bluefield awaits the winner of Fairmont Senior-Mingo Central, with the state championship game scheduled for December 1 in Wheeling.
