TAZEWELL, VA (WOAY) – Tazewell has been designated as an official Virginia Main Street.
Tazewell is one of only 30 cities in Virginia to have this title granted from the state. It means that the state considers their downtown area to be revitalized, and they are now eligible for more state-funded grants.
Amanda Hoops with Tazewell Today, a local initiative for urban development, says their main street has come a long way in the past few years.
“Previously, you would only find attorney’s offices and administration offices. Now we have five restaurants, we have multiple retail locations, a coffee shop, we even have a furniture store now. So the governor has basically recognized that we have successfully revitalized our downtown area,” Hoops said.
Tazewell is also only one of four cities in Virginia to receive this designation this year.
