City of Beckley to celebrate Founder’s Day by unveiling new Wildwood House historical marker on May 31

Beckley, WV (WOAY)- The Parks and Recreation Department and the Raleigh County Historical Society gear up to host the annual Founder’s Day celebration on Saturday, May 31st.

The celebration will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Wildwood House, off South Kanawha Street.

The event honors Beckley’s founding in 1838, offering a day full of tradition and fun for all ages.

Visitors can expect carriage rides, craft vendors, live animals, historical re-enactors, a light picnic lunch on the lawn, and guided cemetery and house tours.

This year’s highlight will be the reveal of a new historical marker recognizing Wildwood House as part of the national Civil War Trails network.

The designation connects Beckley to over 1,500 Civil War sites across six states.
