CDC investigating E.coli outbreak linked to organic carrots

West Virginia (CNN)—The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating an outbreak of E. coli linked to tainted carrots.

The outbreak has caused one death and sickened dozens of other people in 18 states.

Investigators traced the organic carrots to Grimmway Farms, a carrot producer in Bakersfield, California.

The company has recalled its bagged organic baby and whole carrots.

They were sold under several brands, including Trader Joe’s, Wegmans, and Sprouts.

The baby organic carrots had a best-if-used-by date from September 11 to November 12.

The whole organic carrots had a use-by date ranging from August 14 to October 23.

Grimmway Farms said the recalled carrots are likely no longer sold in stores but may still be in people’s homes.

The company is now investigating what happened and says it will review its growing, harvesting, and processing practices.
