Buying a home is the American dream, but how do we start?

HINTON, WV (WOAY)- When people think of living the American dream, many think of family and a home with a white picket fence. Although recently many are wondering how to even start the process of buying a home?

Well, according to National Land Realty, finding the right bank is what you need to do first.

“Most people think that they have an idea of what they want to pay or what they can afford, but that may not necessarily align with what a bank is willing to do,” explained Jake Teubert, Broker for National Land Realty’s Southern West Virginia office. “At the end of the day, the bank is going to be the one who dictates what you buy.”

Teubert recommends going through local vendors first for the loan. They can usually provide you with a better interest rate and payment plan than bigger banks, depending on your credit score.

The next step is to find a good agent who will advocate for you and your family’s wants and needs. Now, when you find the home of your dreams and place an offer, you have to make sure that everything is good to go on this investment.

“It’s always good to go to these trusted professionals, whether it’s a home inspector, an appraiser, an attorney, a realtor, a surveyor, to make sure that the greatest investment that you may make in your entire life is a sound investment,” said Teubert.

Having everything done properly from the start can save you money and hassle down the road.

“So, you know, you want to make sure that you have done your due diligence and that the home that you’re buying is going to be a sound and safe home for you and your family,” said Teubert.

The house you buy can be the new foundation for your life because, as the saying goes, “You’re turning a house into a home.”
