The Fayette County Community Foundation is partnering with the Chamber of Commerce to create a Bridge Day License Plate. But according to PJ Stevenson, Chair of the Fayette County Community Foundation, they first have to prove to the state DMV that there’s an interest.
“We have a temporary application from the DMV. What that means is we need to collect the first hundred to prove that there’s an interest in having the Bridge Day plate,” said Stevenson, “if we don’t collect the first hundred project stops.”
The foundation believes this plate is something the community can rally around, and if they can collect those first 100 applications…
“Then we go to the next step. And that’s where they’ll take some of the different concepts that we’ve put together and create an actual license plate out of that. Once that goes through, it takes maybe 18 months. So it’s a little bit of a long game, and they’ll get the license plate, we’ll all approve it, and then if you’re one of those people that have already registered, theirs will be in the mail before long.”
Stevenson said the concept art that was submitted for the license plate came from past Bridge Day Poster artwork that best represents the festival.
“Obviously, it’s the, you know, one of the largest single-day festivals in the country. And definitely here in West Virginia,” Stevenson emphasized. “Hundreds of thousands of people come to visit and see everything that we have here to offer in Fayette County.”
The initial application costs $91.50, and that fee covers the cost of the plate and registration for the year it’s released. If 100 applications are not reached, all money will be refunded.
Many would-be specialty plates don’t reach 100 applications. If this one does, Stevenson says it will be an opportunity to represent the best of southern West Virginia on your vehicle.
“Well, I think they’re part of the club. You know, I feel that way about the rafting plate. You can tell that they’re part of our club, you know, if you’re into rafting. I think the same thing. If they have the Bridge Day plate, you’re on their team.”
The 100 applications must be collected by the Fayette County Community Foundation by August 3rd, 2026, for the project to move forward.
Applications for the Bridge Day license plate and how to make a payment are available at the Fayette County Community Foundation’s website.
Checks for $91.50 should be made payable to the Fayette County Community Foundation. Checks can be dropped off at the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce or mailed to the Foundation at FCCF- BD, 310 W. Oyler Ave., Oak Hill, WV 25901, along with the application.
Only West Virginia vehicles with Class A plates are eligible. Annual renewal after the first year costs $65.
