Brian’s Safehouse’s annual Banquet and Fundraiser offers hope from addiction

BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) — Unchanging Faithfulness, Unshakable Hope: For 17 years, Brian’s Safehouse has extended God’s life-restoring powers to those trapped in addiction.

“We love that theme because the Lord and community have been faithful to provide the needs of the Safehouse,” said Communications Director Leslie Pease. “The banquet (Friday, April 11) is an opportunity for us to continue sharing that unshakable hope that the Lord and programs at Brian’s Safehouse give.”

Pease says they are excited for this year’s banquet.

“One of our graduates, Tricia Lalima Easley, will share her story. She and her husband are graduates of our programs,” the communications director said.

When you are immersed in the life of addiction, you think you’ll never get out. Brian’s Safehouse offers hope to help you break free.

The Safehouse is now West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residents certified, so they can receive state referrals from probation offices, prisons, and state-funded organizations.

“An amazing gift; WVARR protects from all kinds of human trafficking,” said Pease. “It ensures that the residents receive their due and get what you’re promising them.”

The 2025 banquet fundraising focus is the Safehouse’s new industry program, where the residents will learn work ethics. According to the communications director, early onset of addiction may start at ages 10, 11 or 12. As such, they don’t learn from their parents or have a conducive home life to gain the skills.

“The higher the addiction, the lower the labor force numbers. West Virginia has the second lowest labor workforce participation level,” Pease said. “This workshop will teach them how to work and give the community a great, reliable labor force. It will also help make the program self-sustaining.”

The 12-month residential program focuses on your recovery. People often comment: ‘I can’t give a year.’

Pease says five years go by, then ten, even a lifetime goes by and they are still trapped in addiction. So take that year and the Safehouse will provide you the foundation.

“We will show you and teach you and partner with you and walk alongside you in your recovery and give you the skillset to know how to overcome those addictions. Also, introduce you to the Lord,” she said. “While some have slip-ups — when they fail, they know where to look. And the neat thing is they know there’s still hope.”
