Body of 55-year old man discovered in Monroe County

A deceased body was found in the Shanklins Ferry area of Monroe County on Friday morning.

According to the West Virginia State Police, two fishermen discovered a burnt-out Ford Focus with a deceased human body on Friday, February 27th, at 9:40 a.m.
First Sergeant S.S. Keatan and Trooper First Class N.C. Patton responded to the scene, finding the burnt vehicle and a dead man lying on the riverbank.

The male was identified as James Jefferies, age 55, of Peterstown, West Virginia.

At this time, his death is being investigated as a homicide.

His body was sent to the WV State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The victims’ next of kin have been notified.

The WV State Police crime scene team responded and assisted with the investigation, which is still ongoing.
