Bluefield, Woodrow Wilson Defend Sectional Championships

PRINCETON, WV AND BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) – Bluefield and Woodrow Wilson boys basketball will both be home for regionals after defending their sectional championships Friday night.

The Beavers were involved in a back-and-forth contest with Shady Spring to start, with the game tied 32-32 at halftime. However, Bluefield would gain momentum in the second half of their 80-64 win. Braeden Crews scored 22 points for the Beavers, who will host Independence next Thursday in regionals; Shady Spring will travel to Westside.

In Class AAA, Woodrow Wilson kept their streak of Region 3 Section 2 championships alive with a 68-64 win against Princeton. Ben Gilliam and Ayden Ince each had double-doubles for the Flying Eagles, who will host St. Albans Tuesday. Princeton will go to George Washington Tuesday.

There is one more area sectional championship game to come this weekend. Mount View will play Greater Beckley Saturday night at Bluefield State.
