WOAY Sports confirmed Monday that Bluefield and Princeton High Schools will play two football games in the 2020 season.
The Tigers and Beavers were originally going to meet September 4 at Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield, and that game is currently unaffected. The squads will now also play September 25 at Hunnicutt Stadium in Princeton.
The announcement comes following the Virginia High School League’s decision to move their high school football schedule to spring 2021. Multiple area schools, including Bluefield and Princeton, were originally slated to play teams from Virginia.
Both schools say they are in talks about adding more opponents to their 2020 schedules, but nothing additional has been finalized. Bluefield has won the last three meetings in the Mercer County rivalry, with Princeton’s last win coming in 2016.
Preseason for high school fall sports in West Virginia is currently going to begin Monday, August 17.
