OAK HILL (WV)- Summer is slowly but surely winding down, and school sports are starting back up again. As we get ready for sports season, there are some things to keep in mind for your kids.
Make sure you have the proper protective gear to help decrease the potential for injury and minimize recovery time. This includes gear like mouth guards, pads, face masks, and more.
Getting a physical before the season can help catch health concerns and take preventive measures to ensure your child is still able to participate.
Additionally, you should take a concussion baseline test prior to an injury, so that it can give you the data you need if you are injured later. Regardless of the sport, head injuries are always a risk, and taking the baseline test again after being injured can help indicate if a player suffers a concussion and can help parents make decisions about their child.
Lastly, make sure to encourage your child to be active and, of course, have fun.
