WOAY – The Big 12 Conference announced Friday that the 2020 season for all spring sports would be canceled for all member schools, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
WVU baseball head coach Randy Mazey said in a statement, “I’m really disappointed for our team, especially the seniors, but the health and safety of our kids takes precedence over baseball and always will. This is one of those tough parts of life that our players will have to learn how to get through. They will have each other, and we will help support them in any way we can.” West Virginia finishes the season 11-5. The NCAA is currently discussing the chance that student-athletes in all spring sports will be eligible to compete in the 2020-21 season.
Also on Friday, the conference issuing a statement that organized team meetings would be suspended until at least March 29. WVU is scheduled to hold its spring football game on April 18 in Morgantown. Spring practice for Marshall football is also postponed until further notice.
