Better End of the Work Week; Rain Returns Saturday Night

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): Most of the region will stay dry through the day, but a couple of lingering showers are possible this morning. Any and all activity will be out of the region by noon, so the rest of the day will be wonderful. Temperatures will be back in the upper 70s and the clouds will dissipate, letting the sun shine bright to end the traditional work week. Saturday morning will be much of the same, but conditions will change up by the evening time. Make sure to get out and enjoy the nicer weather before more showers and storms move through the region this weekend. Meteorologist Christian Boteler has the latest forecast:

Showers and storms will start developing and passing through Saturday evening. A few of these initial storms could become strong to severe with gusty winds and small hail, but most of the severe weather will be to our north. Still, the threat is there for our northern counties. Storms will be weaker as they head into the southern and eastern regions of our viewing area. The rain becomes more widespread overnight, and storms will weaken due to the loss of daytime heating.

These will last all night long and through Sunday afternoon, giving us our first good rainfall in a while. However, we’ll only end up with around a half to three-quarters of an inch in most of our region. This will not be enough to quell the developing drought in southern West Virginia. Conditions will clear up by Sunday evening, but temperatures will stay in the mid-50s through the afternoon. It will be a cooler and wetter end to the weekend. While that may not sound like fun, it is needed to keep the drought from further intensifying.

After the showers pass through on Sunday, the region will experience another streak of dry weather next week. Rain chances are few and far between with the next chance not coming in until the second half of next week. Along with the dry weather, temperatures will be returning to above-average values after a cooler day on Monday.

Speaking of cooler, Monday and Tuesday morning will be much cooler than average. Frost concerns will be  brought into the region. Any sensitive crops should be protected during those mornings. Thankfully, temperatures will rebound by Tuesday afternoon. In fact, we’ll be back to the warmer side of things on Wednesday with temperatures in the lower 70s. Here’s a look at the 7-Day Forecast:
