BECKLEY, WV (WOAY) — The Beckley VA Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Donald A. Gagliano as the new Chief of Staff. Dr. Gagliano will be responsible for all the clinical operations at the Beckley VAMC and two community clinics in Greenbrier and Mercer counties.
“I am thrilled Dr. Gagliano will be working with us on Beckley VAMC’s Executive Team. Someone with Dr. Galiano’s’ vast medical expertise and military service record is a valuable addition to our team, “Beckley VAMC Medical Center Director Desmond McMullan said. “With his diverse, progressive medical knowledge and experience, Dr. Gagliano is the perfect person to oversee our clinical programs and help us advance and enhance the health care options available to the Veterans we serve.”
Dr. Gagliano’s extensive professional experience includes graduating from the United Sates Army War College in 1998 and earning a Certification as a Physician Executive (CPE) from the American Association for Physician Leadership in 2001. Prior to that he earned his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, and graduate degree in Health Administration from Pennsylvania State University. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and fellowship in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina at the University of Illinois Eye Infirmary in Chicago, Ill.
In 2003, Dr. Gagliano served as the Iraq Theater Surgeon and Commander of the 30th Medical Brigade during the invasion and occupation of Iraq. After more than 30 years of military service, he retired from the active duty Army in 2013.

Prior to his appointment at the Beckley VAMC, he served as the Chief of Staff at the John J. Pershing VAMC in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Since October 2018.
