Monroe County, WV (WOAY)- Tuesday’s match was simple winner advances, the loser is staying at home.
The top-seeded James Monroe Mavericks welcomed the 3-seeded Mingo Central Miners for the Class AA/A Region III Championship.
Mingo Central came into this game after defeating Midland Trail on the road 3-2 in the previous round. While James Monroe won their first game of the tournament over Summit Christian Academy 4-1.
Both teams were coming off strong wins, but James Monroe put on a fireworks show on offense during the region championship, jumping out to 4-0 lead at halftime, thanks in part to a first round hattrick from #20 Kendall Long.
James Monroe would add three more goals in the second half to go on to a 7-0 win, a trip to Beckley for the state soccer tournament!
