Beautiful Start; Activity Later this Week

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): The week is starting on a great note! Some patchy fog aside, temperatures will be comfortable and skies will remain partly cloudy through the day. High temperatures will end up in the lower 70s, which combined with modest humidity make for one of the best days of the week. If you have any outdoor activities to do, this is a great day for them. Overnight temperatures will drop into the upper 40s and lower 50s, so anyone working or traveling overnight may want a light jacket again.

The nice weather continues through the first half of the week. Temperatures will rise steadily on Tuesday and Wednesday, with afternoon highs on the latter reaching the lower 80s. Heat will not be much of an issue this week, but those staying outside for an extended period should have plenty of water and sun protection. Oddly enough, there is not a very strong high-pressure center that is keeping us dry. However, even without that influence, activity will stay to our west until later this week.

The weather pattern changes drastically on Thursday as the next low-pressure system moves through the northeastern states. While the system’s center will miss us to the north, a cold front will be dragged along with it. This cold front will bring widespread showers and storms in the afternoon and evening. Rain is possible in the morning as well, but would be scattered if anything shows up before the front comes through. Some storms could be on the stronger side depending on how much morning activity occurs. This threat is not as potent as last Friday or Sunday as of now, but we will keep an eye on things in case the risk for strong storms trends upwards. If any strong storms end up developing, damaging winds would likely be the main concern.

The low-pressure system will move out of the region Thursday night, dragging the cold front with it. However, this will not be the end of the rainy activity this week. Another round of showers and storms is expected on Friday, ending the week with some much-needed precipitation. Rain will fall in the morning and afternoon before dissipating overnight. The severe weather risk should be lower due to the previous day of rain and the earlier timing of this round. While it will be a damper for outdoor plans, these showers and storms are welcomed with open arms by many.

After the disturbances pass through, a high-pressure system will keep us nice and dry to start the weekend. Temperatures will stay in the mid-70s, making for a very comfortable day. While today may be the best day this week, Saturday is very close behind it. These conditions will likely carry over through Sunday, but a couple of models are showing a signal for rainfall during the later hours of the weekend. This could trend up, but for now I am expecting models to move the rain back towards Monday of next week. Here’s the 7-Day Forecast:
