An active weather day just to the east of our area across parts of Virginia. The active weather will stay in our region as we head through the next 7 days. Severe weather and flash flood potential both exist on numerous days. Taking a look into Tuesday, numerous clusters of storms look to dive south into our area each one looks capable of producing winds up to 60 mph and very heavy rainfall. We are also under a severe weather threat on Wednesday as well with our area yet again being in a Slight Risk (Level 2/5).
Looking at the flash flood potential, some of our area is included within the Slight Risk of flash flooding for Monday, while the Slight Risk expands across most of our area going from Tuesday into Wednesday. Monday’s storms, while the potential to be strong, still looks to be scattered whereas heading into Tuesday-Thursday they appear to be much more widespread. The GFS and European model both agree on generally 2-4 inches of rain across most of our area.
Taking a look at the full 7 day forecast, temperatures continue to remain fairly steady in the upper 70’s/low 80’s throughout the region. Yet again, every single day features at least some risk of rainfall which does not help the flash flood threat wane. With multiple models hinting at 2-4 inches, whoever finds themselves setting up under training thunderstorms could very well see rain totals higher than that. If water starts to rise on the roads, turn around; don’t drown!
