OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – There have been some scattered rain and snow showers around the state tonight. While most of the rain and snow has been to our north and west, a few light snow showers are possible overnight, especially in the northern areas. Any snow showers will mainly serve to make the roads slick, but won’t accumulate.
The clouds and a southerly flow also mean lows will be much warmer than what we saw this morning. We’ll wind up just below the freezing mark, quite a change from last night, where most areas were in the lower to middle teens.
Tomorrow, the active weather continues, and the warmup really begins. A series of disturbances and fronts will pass through, and just to the north of the area, triggering chances for rain for several days running. Since we’re on the warm side of the upper-level flow, the precipitation will fall as rain instead of snow. In addition, there could be some thunder on Friday with the first of two fronts that will swing through the area.
Temperatures, meanwhile, will be on the rise. We’ll get near the normal tomorrow, with highs in the middle 50s. Then we’ll see the temperatures rise into the mid-60s on Friday and Saturday, and into the middle 70s for the highs as we end the weekend.
As we end the weekend, a more potent front will sweep through the area. Temperatures will drop by nearly 20 degrees between Sunday and Monday. But that leads to near normal highs on Monday and Tuesday, since Sunday will be so warm. There will be a chance for some snow to mix in with the rain in some of the higher elevation locations, but once again, most areas will see rain.
