OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – This week marks National Safe Boating Week, a nationwide effort to increase boating safety.
“It’s really important if your out on the water or near the water to always wear a life jacket or PFD. Even if you’re a good swimmer its important because the water can move fast,” said Social Media Coordinator Chelsea Bricker.
Now that white water rafting attractions, like ACE Adventure Resort are re-opening this week many are anxious to get back on the water. But the resort says they want everyone to have fun safely.
“Be aware of your surroundings that’s super important especially when you’re dealing with water,” said Bricker.
With a late start to rafting season due to COVID-19 resorts are expected to see a spike this boating season.
“Definitely with the New River and white water some people think it’s totally safe to go out there. But again the current can be moving really quickly and can be very dangerous and you can get swept away. So again if you’re out on the rapids definitely you need to be with a guide in a boat and not just swimming in white water,” said Bricker.
The resort has already started booking reservations.
