A few showers tonight, a lot of cold air ahead

We’ve seen some showers make their way through the region this afternoon, mainly in the southern coalfields and Greenbrier Valley.
Rain totals have been light, but at this point, every little bit helps. The area is still in a significant drought.
A few more showers, with some additional light accumulation, are possible as we go through the next few hours.
Showers should end later tonight, and skies will clear out a bit, allowing temperatures to fall into the upper 30s and lower 40s. In addition to the cool temperatures, there will be a breeze to make it feel even colder. It’s definitely jacket weather if you plan to be out and about tomorrow morning!
Tomorrow will be sunny, but cool and breezy. Highs will be in the mid-50s – about 8 to 10 degrees below the normal. Tomorrow night will be mostly clear and cold again, with lows in the mid to upper 30s.
High pressure will remain in control of our weather, and by Thursday night and through Friday, the high will be over top of the area and winds will be calm, allowing for some significant radiational cooling. Almost everyone will see freezing temperatures on Friday morning, with a hard freeze in Pocahontas County. For the Fabulous Football Friday games, temperatures will be cool at the start of the games and cold by the end. As soon as the sun sets (which happens before kickoff this time of the season), temperatures will fall off quickly.
The rest of the weekend will also be cool for the season, although Saturday will be the warmest day of the extended forecast period. A weak cool front will approach from the southwest on Sunday and give us a small chance for showers. The end of the extended forecast will feature near-normal temperatures on the low end, but below normal on the high end of the scale. Another chance for showers comes into the picture on Tuesday of next week as another low pushes into the Ohio Valley from the Plains. Another low that passes to our south will also throw some showers in our direction.
