It is a cold start to our Friday around southern West Virginia, as most areas have dropped to the freezing mark with clear skies and light winds. It’s definitely jacket weather as we head out to work and school!

By the end of the day, we’ll still be on the cool side, as highs in the lower to middle 50s are around 10 degrees below the normal. Tonight, we’ll again be around the freezing mark in most areas, and if this morning didn’t put an end to the growing season, tonight definitely will. We’ll need the jackets and sweatshirts as we head out to our Friday night football games.

Temperatures do warm up slightly as we progress through the weekend, with highs rising to near 60 degrees. Lows will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Clouds will be on the increase as a low-pressure center approaches from the southwest. The warm front doesn’t quite get far enough to the north to make our temperatures warm again, but it will trigger a few showers.

Early next week, another low will come into the area from the more traditional western and northwestern direction, and that will give us more chances for showers. With temperatures on the cold side, some of the precipitation in the highest elevations in the state will be in the wintry form through the middle of the week! After a slightly warmer weekend, temperatures will drop back down into the lower 50s for highs. Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s.
