OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – First responders got a very special lunch today. A local church in Fayette County treated them.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, community members continue to find ways to say thank you to first responders. Church of God of Prophecy provided free meals to front line workers Friday afternoon to show how much they appreciate their service.
“We just want to say thank you for everything that they do for us—giving of themselves to protect us and serve us. So we wanted an opportunity to serve them,” said Pastor Deb Pastor.
Area deputies, firefighters, rescuers, police and state troopers were all invited. Police and other front line workers say the effort means a lot, especially during difficult times.
“As the Sheriff of this county, and for them to take their time out of the day to give back to the first responders,” said Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley. “It touches your heart with what’s going on in the world today. I want to say personally from the Sheriff of Fayette County and all my deputies, thank you.”
The gesture comes at a time when first responders are facing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 as cases spike across the country.
“Me personally as a first responder, I didn’t get into it to be recognized for anything that I do, but it’s always great when it happens. And for my mom’s own church to do, it is pretty great,” said EMT Amanda Minor.
Pastor Minor says she plans on hosting more first responders lunches in the future.
