RAINELLE, WV (WOAY) – Despite the pandemic, hundreds of motorcyclist are making a difficult journey across the nation to honor the brave men and women for their ultimate sacrifice.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the world, motorcycling is of course not exempt.
“Run for the Wall has been officially canceled because of this virus,” said Run for the Wall biker James Gregory.
Although, The Run for the Wall has been canceled. Bikers across the country are keeping the momentum of honoring our veterans.
“But Run for the Wall riders are not canceled. We are here today in the cold wet rain almost three thousand miles from California so we could continue this mission to get to DC to get to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial,” said Gregory.
For the Run for the Wall bikers not continuing a tradition of going to DC to honor veterans and fallen soldiers was not an option even during a pandemic.
“It’s not just the event itself it’s the people that’s involved. It’s hard to explain what happens on a run like this when you ride side-by-side mile after mile. The most important thing you can’t call it an annual run if you skip a year, so we’re here right now and we’re glad the people are here to help support us,” said Gregory.
The Run for the Wall event was scheduled for March, but due to COVID-19 concerns this year’s bike event was canceled. Run for the wall bike member James Gregory says over 30 members came out to support the meaning behind the mission.
“Rainelle has become our home away from home. We’re now seeing the children and grandchildren that we saw 32 years ago. We’re still going to keep coming back,” said Gregory.
