OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – Today at the Oak Hill public library, families gathered to participate in the Leap into Science Family Workshop.
The workshop is meant to encourage underserved children to learn about the science fields, with this one focusing on physics and balancing. The Leap into Science program is engineered by the Franklin Institute and originated in 2007 with funding from the National Science Foundation.
Educators who decide to hold these events must attend courses sponsored by the Franklin Institute in order to become qualified. The idea is that programmers of the science workshops should understand the impact that learning about the STEM fields can have on children. Kim Massey, an extension librarian at the Oak Hill Library, coordinated the event.
According to Massey, this is the first time the Oak Hill Library has held a science workshop like this, and fully intends to continue it in the future. The next event is due to happen sometime this Spring.
