Showers, wind today cooler by the weekend

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – We are tracking some showers that are making their way through the state this morning. The front that we have been tracking for the last several days is the trigger for the rain, and as the day goes on, the rain will pick up in intensity. Some of the showers could be heavy enough to cause ponding water on the roads and standing water in low-lying spots. Widespread flooding is not expected. Despite the rain, highs today will still be mild and will generally be in the upper 60s.

It won’t feel quite that warm, however, as the winds will be gusty thanks to the interaction between the low that has the front attached to it and an area of high pressure off the Atlantic coast. The rain continues tonight, and the temperatures stay mild, with lows in the mid-to-upper-50s.

Tomorrow will start off with more rain as the front continues to move through.
As the day goes on, the showers will end, and the skies will clear. Highs will be in the upper 60s again, but will fall quickly after sunset as the front will have passed through and the cold air begins to invade the state. By the end of the night, lows will be in the upper 40s.
Friday will feature a few scattered showers as a secondary front comes into the region. The front will trigger a few showers, but I think the Friday night football games should be fine weather-wise.
Rain gear will come in handy just in case. Once again, temperatures will cool a bit behind this secondary front but should still be at or above normal as the weekend begins.
Highs this weekend and beyond will be in the mid-50s as the cooler air finally begins to make its presence felt. Lows on Sunday morning will be in the mid-30s. Some showers are possible in the northeast as a disturbance on the back side of the secondary low triggers precipitation. If the showers fall early or late enough, temperatures could be cool enough to see some type of wintry precipitation, especially in the highest elevation locations.
