Beautiful Election Day leads to rain by mid-week

It’s been another nice day overall across southern West Virginia, although we did have some rain showers move through earlier in the day. Overall, they didn’t produce much rain at all across the region with only a few hundredths of an inch. Tuesday looks to be a very nice election day with a high temperature right around 70 degrees and remaining under mostly sunny conditions. Once we head into Wednesday, the rain chance does look to come back although there are still questions regarding how early the rain starts.

Some models keep the rain starting Wednesday evening and overnight into Thursday for southern West Virginia, while other models have rain moving in right around noon. Regardless, the heaviest of the rain looks to be an overnight Wednesday into Thursday event. Soccer games could be on the wet side as we head into Thursday morning and afternoon. The rain should pop off and on through Friday before another little break Saturday. Sunday and Monday of next week still appear very uncertain, but opting for a small chance of showers yet again (~30%).

Here is a look at the European model rainfall forecast over the next 7 days. It does show some people exceeding an inch, while the GFS has most people topping out at a half to three quarters of an inch. The difference in that is the European has some rain coming through Saturday, while the GFS does not. We are still trying to iron that out to see which model is more reliable in that aspect. Either way, some heavier rain is possible going Wednesday night into Thursday morning that could accumulate some areas near three quarters of an inch or more.

Taking a look at that full 7 day forecast, mostly sunny conditions on Tuesday will continue that into the day on Wednesday before the chance for rain showers return. Football Friday appears to have the chance of rain still lingering, but at current thinking it stays mainly early. The chance of rain after 5PM Friday appears to be on the decrease, which could set up some good football weather, but bring a light jacket as temperatures will be on the decrease quickly after sunset.
