Several arrests made in McDowell County following major drug investigation

Welch, WV (WOAY) A major drug investigation in McDowell County has led to several arrests, including the seizure of fentanyl and crack cocaine.  

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office says multiple agencies executed a search warrant on the morning of Friday, August 7, at a residence on Court Street in Welch. 

Authorities arrested Anthony Kearse Jr., who has been charged with two counts of delivery of a schedule-two controlled substance, involving fentanyl.  

Investigators say they recovered about seven-point-seven ounces of fentanyl, two-point-nine ounces of crack cocaine, and about 30 suboxone strips.  

Kearse’s bond was set at $750,000 cash only.  

A coordinated roundup also resulted in the arrests of five other people on outstanding drug-related charges.  

Authorities are still looking for 45-year-old Thomas A. Cox of Gary, wanted on charges including delivery of crack cocaine, delivery of fentanyl, obstructing an officer, and fleeing from an officer.  

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active and additional arrests and charges are possible.
