Prepare yourself for the Wasteland Jamboree

Fayette County, WV (WOAY) – A new event is coming to West Virginia this May. Welcome to the Wasteland Jamboree.

Brought to West Virginia by Fallout for Hope. But what is Fallout for Hope?

“That is Kenneth Vigue – it’s a charity drive that he started eight years ago. And it started as a simple idea to get gamers together globally to raise awareness to different charities, and then also to be able to raise funds for charities.” Explained Brian McLaughlin, A.K.A. Chip Monk.

An event born from love with this notorious video game series, first started in Vegas and has now fully migrated to West Virginia to ensure that the East Coast gets in on the fun too.

“So we decided, what if we did an East Coast version? I had already been traveling all over West Virginia. I had already built a network and made friends, and I was so enamored by the hospitality of the state. So it was to me, it was a perfect fit.” McLaughlin continued.

But it is not just for people to come visit the state. It also helps the people here in West Virginia. McLaughlin explains, “Fallout for Hope typically does Saint Jude as their main [charity] one. – We decided to look into something that’s more localized, especially for Braxton County, because this is, of course, taking place in Flatwoods.”

And so they picked the Mountaineer Food Bank.

“We think that would be more impactful for West Virginia, and we’re more than happy to make that happen through Fallout for Hope.”

Now let’s get into all the exciting details. The weekend (May 2 – May 3) is packed full of fun events produced by Better Popcorn Productions in partnership with Fallout for Hope.

Prepare yourself for a myriad of events, from celebrity meet and greets to live local music, local vendors and food trucks, larping and atomic midway and carnival, and even more.

Steven Staats, A.K.A. Old Man Liver, said, “Our whole goal, from along the charity to the artists to the helpers and the workers, is that everything is a local based event.”

And if you are still wanting more, you can attend their Fallout for Hope Charity Gala and post-apocalyptic Fan Film Festival. So, if you are ready to join in, go to their website (wastelandjamboree.com) to purchase your tickets now.
