Tracking showers tonight, and a nice weekend ahead

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – The first day of astronomical spring features plenty of clouds, and now we’re tracking some showers this evening, mainly along and north of I-64. None of the showers is especially heavy, but it will slow things down a bit for people heading out to late Friday evening plans.

Later tonight, some of the showers could be on the strong side, with a chance for gusty winds. The good news is that it looks like severe weather is not in the cards; earlier today, part of the area was under a level one out of five for severe storms.

With the cloud cover, lows tonight will not drop very much. Most areas will be hovering around the 50-degree mark. And despite the fact that it is a front that is producing the showers and that the front will sweep through the area tonight, temperatures will actually be going up as the weekend goes on.

Tomorrow, highs will rise into the mid to upper 60s. Once the lingering showers are gone, temperatures are going to rise into the mid- to upper 60s. The flow is out of the west and eventually southwest over the next couple of days ahead of the second of the two fronts that we’ll be tracking this weekend. Highs on Sunday will reach near 80 degrees, with some locations in the southern coalfields reaching that level. The downside to the warm temperatures will be the wind, as the advancing low interacts with low pressure over the Gulf.

Late Sunday and early Monday, the second front comes into the area and will bring us some showers and isolated storms.

Temperatures do fall behind this second front by more than 20 degrees. But it will still be around the normal, not the cold temperatures that we saw earlier this week.
