Federal appropriations bill grants $7.5 million to Concord University’s Center for Rural Healthcare Workforce Solutions

Athens, WV (WOAY) Concord University is set to receive $7.5 million for facilities, equipment, and construction to continue work on a Center for Rural Healthcare.

The funding is part of a federal appropriations minibus bill approved by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump this week.

The funding will support Phase Two of the project, further transforming the former Wooddell Hall into a renovated space with expanded classrooms and laboratory facilities for Concord’s healthcare programs.

University President Bethany Meighen says the investment strengthens Concord’s mission to serve the state, thanking Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice for championing the funding.

Capito, who chairs the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, helped craft the spending package and says the funding will help address critical healthcare workforce shortages in rural West Virginia.

Justice also praised the allocation, calling it a win for the state and Concord University’s future.

Renovations began with Phase One, funded by $1.6 million in congressionally directed spending last year.
