A brief cooldown, but good weather for the big weekend events

It is a mixed bag of weather around southern West Virginia this afternoon. Some areas, especially in the higher elevations, were seeing more clouds, which is causing temperatures to be quite a bit cooler than they were at this time yesterday.
Later tonight, those areas will partially clear out, and everyone will see partly cloudy skies and seasonably cool temperatures. Patchy fog is also a possibility, but most areas will stay fog-free.
Tomorrow, skies will be mostly sunny, but a brief and fairly sharp cooldown will begin as a front is making its way through the region today. It won’t affect our temperatures much tomorrow afternoon – we’ll top out in the mid-60s in most areas – but tomorrow night, patchy frost will again be a possibility as lows drop into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Frost Advisories and even Freeze Watches are a good possibility for Thursday morning, and also for Friday morning, when it will be a degree or two colder.
The cool air keeps it cool on Thursday afternoon before a nice warmup begins on Friday. Our Fabulous Football Friday games should be pleasant at the start, but by the end of the game, the jacket or sweatshirt will come in handy once again. The weekend will also start cool as we head out to Bridge Day, but temperatures there will warm up nicely as the day goes on, winding up in the mid-70s by the time it’s all done at 3 p.m.
The second half of the weekend features chances for rain as a front moves into the area from the northwest. The medium-range atmospheric models that we look at are showing decent amounts of rain in the area on Sunday.
Any rain is a good thing, considering the drought that we’re still in. The chance for rain lasts into Monday as some showers form on the back side of the low, which will also bring us cooler air.
