WVU Medicine PCH Emergency Nurse earns DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Princeton, WV (WOAY)- WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital is celebrating one of its own.

Emergency department nurse Kayla Phillips, RN, has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The award is a global recognition for compassionate, skillful care.

Phillips was nominated by a patient who experienced a life-threatening emergency earlier this summer.

In a heartfelt nomination, the patient recalled regaining consciousness to Phillips gently rubbing their face and encouraging them to speak, later realizing her quick actions had saved their life.

But her care didn’t stop there.

Phillips stayed by the patient’s side, offering comfort, explanations, and continued support, even returning the next day to check on their recovery.

Hospital leadership praised Phillips for her professionalism, calm presence, and unwavering compassion. PCH President and CEO Karen Bowling said, “Kayla exemplifies what it means to be a nurse at Princeton Community Hospital.”
