Wyoming County Prosecuting Attorney set to resign from role

Pineville, WV (WOAY)- A major leadership change is coming to Wyoming County.

Prosecuting Attorney Gregory A. Bishop has announced he will step down from his role effective July 31, 2025, after a transformative four-year tenure.

Bishop says the decision comes after deep reflection and a renewed focus on his personal life and family.

He expressed pride in the progress made during his tenure, saying, “I leave knowing that the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is stronger, more efficient, and more effective than it has ever been.”

Since taking office in 2021, Bishop has led reforms to Wyoming County’s criminal justice system, clearing a decade-long backlog of over 300 felony cases, restructuring internal operations to facilitate quicker convictions, and building stronger partnerships with law enforcement to streamline investigations.

His departure marks the end of a significant era for the county’s legal system.
