Wyoming County Board of Education: parents urged to check students for sores before returning to school

WYOMING COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – Wyoming County Schools are continuing to sanitize facilities following an outbreak of a skin infection.

The school board says extracurricular activities are still pending as Servpro finishes its cleaning process.

Wyoming East High School, Westside High School and Mullens Elementary and Middle School will remain closed through Friday.

As a precautionary measure, dehumidifiers have been added to field houses, and the school board is adding and repairing air conditioning where needed to improve conditions.

The board encourages parents to check their children for rashes and unusual sores before sending them to school. Parents are asked to look for areas that look for crusty-looking sores and honey colored sports. Areas commonly affected include the face, arms, legs, hands, and any areas covered by clothing or sporting gear. A fever is also a warning sign.

“If you have questions or concerns about your child returning to school, please contact the school nurse at your child’s school. Our school nurses are available to help answer questions and provide guidance to our families,” the board said in a statement.
