WVU Up to #2, Allen Named Newcomer of the Week

WOAY – For the first time since 1959, West Virginia men’s basketball is ranked in the top two of both major polls.

The Mountaineers are ranked second behind Villanova, receiving 12 first-place votes from the Associated Press and four from the Coaches poll. They are one of five Big 12 teams in the Top 25.

In addition, freshman forward Teddy Allen was named the league’s Newcomer of the Week, after scoring 22 points last Monday against Kansas State and 20 against Oklahoma on Saturday. He is the first Mountaineer to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors since Jonathan Holton in December 2014.

West Virginia stays in Morgantown Tuesday to host Baylor. They visit Texas Tech – the only other remaining team unbeaten in Big 12 play – on Saturday.
