BECKLEY, WV (WOAY)- Today WVU Tech’s History, English, and Creative Arts department hosted its annual 2025 arts showcase. This event is held annually to recognize the outstanding work these students have done.
The art displayed was the product of the work they did in the Landmarks of World Art class. This specific assignment was called the building project, where they had to create their vision of a specific campus building.
However the art students weren’t the only ones to showcase their work, the culinery students got to showcase their work for guests to enjoy. The showcase was also a competition for a tuition waiver judged by people at the Culture Center in Charleston.
Savanah Vance and Samuel Kaellefors won first and second place, respectively, and Gideon Bragg was an honorable mention for his work. The professor running the class explains more about how the work in the class leads to this project.
“At the beginning of the semester, we always start simple with line build to shape value, texture, form, perspective, and then we kind of wrap it up in color,” explained Brent Woodard, Adjunct Professor of Art at WVU Tech. “So by the time we get to this building project in the color section, they’ve learned all of those necessary elements of art to really throw everything into the building project where they understand rolls the perspective line, shape, color, and then it’s up to them if they want to break them or not to make the piece.”
