Princeton, WV (WOAY) WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) has earned recognition nationally.
Healthgrades chose PCH as one of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, placing it in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical excellence.
The distinction is based entirely on patient outcomes, not reputation or surveys.
Hospitals cannot apply for the award or submit their own data, and awards are performance-based.
Healthgrades analyzed more than 45 million Medicare medical claims from about 4,500 hospitals nationwide, reviewing outcomes across 31 common conditions and procedures and focusing on survival and complication rates.
According to Healthgrades, if all hospitals performed at the level of America’s 250 Best during the most recent study period, more than 211,000 lives could have been saved nationwide.
Hospital leaders say the recognition is especially meaningful in central Appalachia, where patients often face higher rates of chronic disease and barriers to care.
They say this achievement confirms that where you live does not determine the quality of care you receive.
In addition to the Top 250 honor, Princeton Community Hospital also earned awards for the number one hospital in West Virginia for pulmonary care, ranking in the top five percent nationwide, and earned multiple five-star ratings for services including heart attack, heart failure, COPD, pneumonia, sepsis, and respiratory failure.
