Princeton, WV (WOAY)-WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital is celebrating one of its nurses, Tonya Mills, RN, who earned the internationally recognized DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
The honor recognizes Mills’ compassion, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond for her patients.
A fellow staff member nominated Mills after witnessing a powerful moment.
While escorting a patient from the Cath Lab, Mills noticed a woman alone at the hospital entrance.
Though it wasn’t her patient, she sprang into action, retrieving a wheelchair, staying with the woman for nearly 30 minutes, and even teaching her sister how to help.
Mills’ warmth and attentiveness had a profound impact on the patient and everyone who witnessed the act of care and kindness.
PCH Vice President of Patient Care Services Tim Anderson calls Mills “a quiet leader”, praising her for treating that patient like family.
