Scarbro, WV (WOAY) Over the past two years, several improvements have been made to the Plum Orchard Lake Wildlife Management Area in Fayette County, and many more changes are underway.
The lake is a well-known fishing spot, and the area also offers camping, hunting, and even a free shooting range.
Former West Virginia delegate David Perry says that he and another active citizen, Leonard Bickford, have been pushing for improvements at Plum Orchard to make it a better resource for the public. At an August meeting, the WVDNR committed to several improvements to safety, accessibility, and oversight.
“Our last meeting was in August, August the 20th, and we had met in the spring. So since then, what’s interesting: they’ve hired a full-time specialist to oversee the lake… installed cameras at the shooting range… they’ve sprayed twice for the lily pads… it will make fishing much easier. You can fish from the bank, fish from the lake.”
“The cooperation with wildlife management and DNR has been astronomical. Awesome… Wildlife Management: Paul Johnson and Brett McMillan, but more importantly, Eric Brooks, our delegate, and just the cooperation that has occurred interdepartmentally within Charleston as well as the relationship we’ve established with those agencies.”
