WVDNR to offer hunter education courses statewide starting February 15

West Virginia (WOAY)- The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will offer traditional hunter-education classes starting Saturday, February 15.

The two-day, 10-hour class is free, and courses are available at various locations statewide.

The courses cover gun safety, wildlife management, ethics, survival, first aid, and game identification.

New hunters born on or after January 1, 1975, must complete the class or another certified hunter education program before purchasing a West Virginia hunting license.

Hunters must complete a hands-on firearm practical after passing the hunter education program.

Additionally, they must pass a final exam under the supervision of a Natural Resources Police officer or volunteer hunter education instructor to earn their hunter education.

An added benefit of completing the class is that certification may also be used to meet license requirements in other states.
