RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – On this Presidents Day 2025, The Captain James Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution was at the Veteran’s Museum, commemorating our patriots at a special dedication ceremony.
“Who fought for our freedoms and all the veterans who continue to do that for us,” said Regent Cecilia Chapman. “Being able to honor them with this bench, at the American Legion Cemetery is momentous for us. We’re doing it also in preparation for celebrating America’s 250th birthday in the next year.”
Originally established to honor the birth of George Washington, in 1885 Congress officially recognized Feb. 22 as Washington’s birthday, and in 1971, the observance changed to the third Monday in February.
