WV fugitive arrested in Southwest VA following a vehicle pursuit

Vinton, VA (WOAY) – A West Virginia fugitive is behind bars following a pursuit with deputies in Southwest Virginia.

According to a media release from the Bedford County Virginia Sheriff’s Office, deputies had information that a wanted fugitive out of West Virginia was located in the Vinton area of Bedford County. Deputies also had information that the suspect had a firearm and if law enforcement tried to stop him it could result in a shootout.

When deputies arrived on scene, they identified the man as 44-year-old Roger Stephen Tolley of Salem, Va.

According to the release, deputies attempted to pull the vehicle Tolley was operating over. Tolley refused resulting in a chase that led into the Town of Vinton. A short time later the pursuit ended in a crash at which time Tolley was arrested.

Tolley was served the extradition warrant from WV and also charged with felony eluding law enforcement.

Tolley is currently being held with no bond.
