WV DMV announces temporary location for the Welch office

Welch, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announces a temporary change in location to serve the Welch area.

According to a news release, the WV DMV will open a temporary location at 745 Riverside Dr, Welch, WV 24801 with hours of operation being Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The change in location is in response to devastating flooding in February.

“Immediately after the flooding, we started work to secure a temporary location to serve the citizens of McDowell County and its surrounding counties,” said DMV Commissioner Everett Frazier. “We recognize the need for certain documents for citizens as they continue the clean-up process, and we want to be there to help obtain what they need.”

The former Welch office sustained heavy damage in the flood and will remain closed. The temporary office will offer driver’s license and ID duplicates and renewals as well as online services offering vital DMV functions without significant disruption.

The new Welch office is expected to open May 2025.
