Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Department of Revenue is reporting a surplus in tax collections last month. The state collected more than 417 million dollars, exceeding expectations for the month by 41 million dollars.
The state has also surpassed year-to-date collections by $102 million, bringing in $1.789 billion since the fiscal year began in June.
Personal income tax accounted for $167 million, more than $8 million over the estimate. Consumer sales tax collections were over $133 million, exceeding expectations by 2 million.
Governor Patrick Morrisey said the positive trends are good for the state as it prepares for budget challenges he says are coming up.
