WV Department of Human Services announces extension of reporting period for SNAP recipients impacted by severe winter storm

Charleston, WV (WOAY) The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DOHS) has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for an extension for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients to report food loss due to the recent winter storm.

The department has extended the 10-day reporting period for the loss of food purchased using SNAP benefits.

The extension applies to current SNAP recipients who lost food as a result of the severe winter storm impacting West Virginia on January 25.

The reporting deadline has been extended through Saturday, February 14, to provide families additional time to request replacement benefits.

To qualify for replacement benefits, individuals must be West Virginia residents who currently receive SNAP benefits and who lost food due to a power outage lasting more than four hours.

Recipients must also submit a signed affidavit.

To request replacement benefits or form ore information, contact your local DoHS county office or call the Office of Constituent Services’ Customer Service Hotline at 1-877-716-1212.
