Kanawha County, WV (WOAY) – The state and local response to a chemical incident in Kanawha County is ongoing.
Officials say workers at Catalyst Refiners in Institute were working to decommission a tank when a violent reaction of chemicals released hydrogen sulfide gas.
Two people were killed, and twenty-one were taken to the hospital.
Governor Patrick Morrisey says the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has implemented air monitoring at the site.
It is also investigating the facility.
