WV Dance Company Performs on Saturday in Beckley

The West Virginia Dance Company is bringing a world-class performance to Beckley this Saturday night. The Company has been performing for 51 years, and this year their cast is made up entirely of native West Virginians.

“Our performance has just so many different energies and types, and there’s just really something for everyone,” said WV Dance Company Artistic Director, Toneta Akers-Toler.

“We started rehearsing in August and we’ve probably performed 50 times already, and we’re super excited to be in our hometown where everybody moved after they auditioned and to share with our community,” Akers-Toler said. “These dancers are incredible, beautiful artists.”

Saturday’s program includes modern dance, originally commissioned compositions, and a closing number rooted in West Virginia history. Akers-Toler says this kind of artistic experience is something the public needs right now.

“I think getting together and just doing things that can take people’s mind away, this is a rather hard time in our history right now, and also thought provoking,” she said.

The performance will take place at the Woodrow Wilson High School auditorium, Saturday, March 28th at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 and $10 for students.

Akers-Toler said there’s nothing like taking the stage at home.

“We’re super excited to be in Beckley and perform for our people.”
