Wood County under state of emergency due to warehouse fire in Parkersburg

Parkersburg, WV (WOAY) The CEO of People’s Cartage is speaking out after a massive warehouse fire in Parkersburg.  

CEO Doug Sibila says the initial fire broke out just before 10:45 Saturday morning and was quickly extinguished by firefighters and the building’s suppression system.  

A fire watch remained overnight, but the blaze reignited Sunday morning.  

No injuries have been reported, and the cause remains under investigation.  

Governor Patrick Morrissey has declared a state of emergency in Wood County due to several emergency crews from around the area arriving on the scene to help extinguish the fire. 

Sibila says the company is cooperating fully with investigators and remains committed to the safety of employees, neighbors, and the surrounding community.  

Community members stepped up to help firefighters battling the massive warehouse fire 

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department says donations have been pouring in since the fire reignited.  

Volunteers are collecting food, drinks, and other supplies for first responders rotating through long shifts at the scene.  

Volunteer firefighter Scott Whitlash says the community response has been overwhelming and inspiring, adding that it’s heartwarming to see people come together to support those working tirelessly to bring the fire under control.
