When life gives you lemons, head to the Bluefield Lemonade Festival

MERCER COUNTY, WV (WOAY) – For more than a decade, the Bluefield Lemonade Festival has been delighting the community with summertime fun.

The Bluefield Chamber of Commerce offers free lemonade, and who doesn’t want a cup?

Other vendors will also be selling lemonade.

“You’re going to have so much lemonade, you’re going to be dreaming lemonade,” said Felicia Holcomb, executive assistant to Bluefield City Manager Cecil Marson.

According to Holcomb, there are games and contests at the lemonade festival — dress up a lemon as your favorite character, and high schoolers can participate in the ‘best lemonade festival logo’ that will be used in all of the 2026 promotions.

“Then we have our pie-eating contest. I think that’s everyone’s favorite,” the executive assistant said, adding that Bluefield loves lemonade, thanks to Eddie Steele.

“He did a promotion back in 1939 to promote Bluefield. When the temperature reached above 90 degrees you received free lemonade. That’s been a custom throughout all the years. Lemonade has always been our thing,” said Holcomb. “So, of course, we had to tie our lemonade festival in with Beaver-Graham week and it’s just a perfect ending to a wonderful week.”
